Review #89: Unmasking Juliet by Teri Wilson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
“My only love sprung from my only hate!
Too early seen unknown, and known too late!
Prodigious birth of love it is to me,
That I must love a loathed enemy.”
----- William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet
Teri Wilson, an American author, has spun a remarkable modern-day tale based on Shakespeare’s famous play, Romeo and Juliet, named, Unmasking Juliet. I warn you, this enchanting tale is bound to arrest your soul into the high ride of emotions and confusion.
Synopsis:
Ever since she was a little girl learning to make decadent truffles in her family's chocolate shop, Juliet Arabella has been aware of the bitter feud between the Arabellas and the Mezzanottes. With their rival chocolate boutiques on the same street in Napa Valley, these families never mix. Until one night, when Juliet anonymously attends the annual masquerade ball. In a moonlit vineyard, she finds herself falling for a gorgeous stranger; a man who reminds her what passion is like outside of the kitchen. But her bliss is short-lived when she discovers her masked prince is actually Leo Mezzanotte, newly returned from Paris and the heir to her archenemy's confection dynasty.
With her mind in a whirl, Juliet leaves for Italy to represent the Arabellas in a prestigious chocolate competition. The prize money will help her family's struggling business, and Juliet figures it's a perfect opportunity to forget Leo…only to find him already there and gunning for victory. As they compete head-to-head, Leo and Juliet's fervent attraction boils over. But Juliet's not sure whether to trust her adversary, or give up on the sweetest love she's ever tasted...
After reading Leo and Juliet’s story, I can assure you that this tale is “1000-times-worth-reading”. From the very first page itself, the author has captured the hearts of her readers with her exquisite prose. The best thing which made the story more compelling is the setting of the book- Napa Valley! The author has portrayed the serene landscape and the diverse culture of Napa Valley very vividly.
Now about the delicious part of the book, what can I say; I can almost smell the bitter taste of chocolate from the pages of the book. And I’d like to hats off to the author for laying out the picture of their chocolate shops so intricately with her simple words.
The feisty passion between Julie and Leo is quite rocking and while reading about their growing passion, I could almost feel the heat from the pages of the book. Their inevitable attraction will only pull you into the story, but their forbidden love-story will keep you hooked till the very end.
The characters and the main protagonists are all well-developed and I could almost see the depth in them. The author might have re-told down a century old famous heart-breaking love-story of the world, but it’s quite astonishing to see that Wilson has written it with utmost compassion and have thoroughly justified Shakespeare’s ‘the-famous’ play. Wilson’s story is filled with intrigue, jealously, lust, love and tear-jerking moments and that will keep you glued till the very last page.
Verdict: A must-read story which is the brilliant modern day re-take of Romeo and Juliet’s devastating love story.
