Review #389: Just Fall by Nina Sadowsky

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“I'd learned that some things are best kept secret.”

----Nicholas Sparks

Nina Sadowsky, the American author, pens her debut romantic thriller, Just Fall that narrates the story of a woman who is thrown on the crossroads to judge on whether the man she is in love with and she thinks to be her soulmate, is a criminal or not. Caught in a web of lies and disloyalty, this woman evolves from being a victim to a most-wanted criminal in a foreign land, all in order to find save the life of her lying husband.

Synopsis:

On the night of her wedding to Rob, Ellie’s perfect world suddenly collapses. Her suave, charming, sophisticated husband is not the man she believed him to be. Could he really be a killer?

Ellie is rapidly swept into a lethal vortex of betrayal, lies, and uncertainty: Who is the man she married, really?

And how far will she go to protect him?

From Manhattan to the Caribbean, Rob and Ellie struggle to escape the grip of Rob’s former life - a life his employers are determined to ensnare him in for good.

When faced with a terrible choice—to become a murderess herself to save the man she loves, or to let him die—Ellie’s decision propels her into a whiplash-paced adventure, filled with cinematic twists and a startling sense of unease.

Ellie is marrying the love of her life, the dream man- Rob. But does she know him completely? Is she sure about his identity, about who he claims to be? The night of her wedding to Rob reveals Ellie the bitter truth about Rob's life, his identity and not only that, the darkness reveals that he is a hit man. Will she be able to forgive her husband? Yes she did forgive, but soon life throws more complicated challenges on her way, when she has to decide to become a killer of innocent people in order to save the life of her husband. While the case of missing children hanging on the background, Ellie runs from one hotel to another targeting innocent men in her wake, and leaving a trail of dead bodies. How long will it go on before the police or the criminals block her mission from saving her husband?

Well, the writing of the author is excellent, quite flawless and laced with heart-stopping suspense and tension, that will make the readers glued onto the edges of their seats. The pacing of the book is really fast as the story navigates from past to present. The dialogues changes from being romantic at times to filled with thrills and tension. The story is captivating enough to keep the readers engrossed till the very end. I found this novel to be highly intriguing that is filled with gripping adventures, adrenaline-rushing actions and a sexy love story.

The setting of the story shifts from New York's chic and urban lifestyle to the Caribbean's salty and breezy climate. And the author has captured both the locations quite strikingly even though the backgrounds do not play a major role in the story. The mystery and the suspense is developed tightly without any loose-end s and with very few confusing twists and turns. The story moves in a spiral way, twisting it and puzzling it,as it delves deeper in to Ellie's one mis-adventure to another.

The characters are dark, flawed and very much well-developed. And the author does a brilliant job in peeling their dark layers from the good humanity layer bit-by-bit. The main characters, Rob and Ellie , both are justified with lots of back story, that contemplates with the fact as to why they choose evil or virtuous paths. Ellie is brave and loving and no matter what, she will save her husband. Whereas Rob too is somewhat similar to Ellie, but mostly he tried to protect Ellie all through out the story by lying to her. The supporting characters are also well-structured and keep the story interesting with their demeanor. What I did not like is the characters, all of them, lacked realism.

The love story between Rob and Ellie is sizzling, passionate and quite hot. Feels like reading a seedy romance novel, although the author's main focus from the mystery never changed. There are some really sexy scenes between Rob and Ellie, that are written with both emotions and heat!!

Overall, I loved reading this min d-twisting as well as thrilling romantic suspense. Read it only if you're a fan of romantic thrillers, otherwise, do not bother to read it at all!

Verdict: Hot, enthralling and a completely gripping read!
