Review #112: The List by Joanna Bolouri

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

We don’t get to pick who we fall in love with, and it doesn’t happen like it should.
----No Strings Attached

Actually that was the underlying story of 32-year old Phoebe Henderson’s solitary life. Phoebe Henderson is the protagonist of Joanna Bolouri’s debut novel, The List, which is an amusing story about a single woman’s crazy sexual adventures.

Synopsis:
Phoebe Henderson may be single but she sure doesn't feel fabulous. It's been a year since she found her boyfriend Alex in bed with another woman, and multiple cases of wine and extensive relationship analysis with best friend Lucy have done nothing to help. Faced with a new year but no new love, Phoebe concocts a different kind of resolution.

The List: ten things she's always wanted to do in bed but has never had the chance (or the courage!) to try. A bucket list for between the sheets. One year of pleasure, no strings attached. Simple, right?

Factor in meddlesome colleagues, friends with benefits, getting frisky al fresco and maybe, possibly, true love and Phoebe's got her work cut out for her.

Review #74: Business Doctors: Management Consulting Gone Wild by Sameer Kamat

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

While reading this book, I cannot help myself from quoting my favorite author, Sidney Sheldon's remarkable words:

“Business is a game, played for fantastic stakes, and you're in competition with experts. If you want to win, you have to learn to be a master of the game.”

But for every business to run smoothly, a business consultant is certainly required to keep the business running. Even those underworld businesses require a business consultant sometimes, to keep the money flowing! Yes Sameer Kamat has shown us the first-hand images to the underworld businesses, how they run, what are the wild cards to run such a business and all those nitty-gritty details about the business, in his new book called, Business Doctors. Yeah the name might sound little confusing and out-of-the-box, but this book promises to be quite scary, dark and wild and simultaneously quite hilarious at some times. All-in-all, he gives us to take peek into the world that we dare to think about!

Review #57: Girl in a Spin by Clodagh Murphy

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A funny quote about being the "IT" Party Girl:
Working out is my partying
Protein shakes are my beer
Pre-workouts are my shots
The pump is my buzz
And the pain the next morning
Is my
Hangover

Is true that life is damn hard for any rootless, party girl who doesn't give a shit about anything in the world and is it really shameful to aim for nice little domestic life with a sweet-old husband?

Jenny Hannigan is the definition of a true party girl- dinners means no home-cook meals, party means getting terribly hung-over and love means breaking millions of hearts. But after a long time, Jenny is in love and is keeping the identity of her soul mate so close to herself! But what happens if the frenemy gets married before the most happening girl of college? Well Jenny's story starts right in the middle of a marriage where people are sugar-mouthing the newlyweds whereas Jenny is sulking and hating the whole environment sitting in a corner.

Review #37: Mad About You by Sinéad Moriarty

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Emma and James Hamilton are one of those couple who are very much going through their mid-life crisis, but fortunately, no matter how bad the storm gets, they won't let their ship sink to the bottom of the ocean. Their spirit and determination to keep their broken ship afloat amidst of all the wild tsunami in the ocean is remarkable and it gives us a lesson to make it work and hold on to each other even in the worst peroid of our lives. James's elder brother, Henry, thinks that we are not entitled to the terms of husband and wife in our marriages, instead there is no wife or husband, there is just one thing called friend-Marriage is friendship between two friends- a man and a woman and they always trust and love each other till death makes them apart.

Sinéad Moriarty, a bestselling Irish author, in her ninth novel, Mad About You, has spun a tale about the imperfections of a marriage.

Review #20: Expecting by Ann Lewis Hamilton

Expecting by Ann Lewis Hamilton

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rita Rudner, an American comedian, writer and actress, has been quoted as saying:

"Life is tough enough without having someone kick you from the inside. "

Ann Lewis Hamilton, an American author, has penned down a life-changing story of a husband and a wife when they took the road to being parents for the first time in her debut novel, Expecting . This is a no extra-ordinary tale of a young couple's plight, but yet so deeply moving with a slight flicker of humor in the air!

I can't thank enough to the author, Ann Lewis Hamilton, for sending over me a copy of her novel, in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Laurie and Alan- a not so quite young couple, but have finally decided to become parents. In the beginning everything turned out to be beautiful and positive, even they decorated their baby's room. But suddenly, Laurie has a miscarriage and things overturn not only in their household but also between their marriage. The thin string of hope that held together Laurie and Alan's marriage started to fall apart, when Laurie has a miscarriage for the second time. And from their very first moment in that fertility clinic, things started to look positive for one more time. And Laurie and Alan's joys knew no bound, when Laurie finally became pregnant. But the news, of Laurie being inseminated by Donor #296's Sperm instead of Alan's, from her doctor shatters their dream and Alan falls more out of his marriage. Who is this Donor #296? Laurie's heart goes out for the baby conceived mistakenly, and eventually Alan started to feel more like a stranger in his own house and life. Read this book to uncover the mystery behind Donor #296's identity? And also what becomes of Laurie and Alan’s marriage?
