TV Review: Stitchers (Pilot Episode)

“It is not that I'm so smart. But I stay with the questions much longer.”

----Albert Einstein

ABC Family presents a brand new science fiction/procedural drama series that is surely going to blow some minds off via the television set.

Stitchers, created by Jeffrey Alan Schechter, is all about a smart-ass Harvard student, Kirsten Clark (played by Emma Ishta) who along with a team of NSA geniuses, like Cameron (played by Kyle Harris), Linus (Ritesh Rajan) and other geeks, hacks into the brain of dead people to find out the reason behind their death, in short, to be able to find the clues and the hidden answers lurking in the memories of a dead human.

Now Kristen is on an academic suspension on the charge of sabotaging her roommate, Camille's (played by Allison Scagliotti) PHD project, thus given the opportunity and by no other choice, Kristen joins this special team and goes into her very first mission to go inside a dead man's memories to find out about  his death and other possible leads.

Kristen's demeanor is projected as someone who doesn't feel anything or have any proper human emotions, in short, a cold human, and there's a reason behind her attitude as she is suffering from a rare symptom called, temporal dysplasia, which doesn't permit her to have any real perception of time.

“I use memory, logic and math to approximate a time difference, but I don’t know what time feels like”

----Kristen

But the story doesn't end here. Her adoptive father, Ed, was found dead in that morning before she joined the NSA Stitchers team. Unfortunately, LAPD has ruled out her father's death as a suicide, which was actually not a suicide and moreover, the head of the NSA Stitchers team, Maggie (played by Salli Richardson-Whitfield) reveals that Ed and her real father were the pioneers behind this 'stitching' program and there might be an agenda to kill her adoptive father.

There is also a bit of sexual inner tone and flirty-ness between Kristen and her NSA counterpart, Cameron which is really cute to watch it. Unfortunately, the logic and the science behind this series sounds quite vague and unreal. But don't worry, Kristen is bound to grow out of her cold manners since after coming out from 'stitching' state, she feels every emotions and surprisingly they are in heightened mode.

And if you enjoy procedural drama with a cold character who may or may not be that much realitic as well as relatable, but somehow fun to watch her behave in an unnatural way, then you should hold on to your remote and on to your anticipation, since the show will be back again every Tuesday night at ABC Family network. Stay tuned and keep watching this thrilling, edgy and out-of-the-box TV series. Although the pilot/first episode cannot necessarily determine the future of a TV show, so all we need to do is wait and watch how far Stitchers keeps 'stitching' and keeps us glued to the television.

Remind me again, why does Kristen Clark (Emma Ishta) looks like Taylor Swift, although in real life Emma looks completely different from her Stitcher's avatar?
